Hello! I am Stefanie Barone and I have been teaching science for 10 years full-time. Most of those years were spent teaching biology and AVID at Norwalk High School. This is my third full-time year at Waite teaching 8th grade and I love it! I enjoy watching kids as they discover the wonders of science and I feel that all kids, given the opportunity and support, will learn science in their own way.
My previous careers included 12 years as an emergency veterinary technician, a zookeeper at Wildlife Safari in Oregon and Santa Ana Zoo, a biochemical genetics lab technician at Quest Diagnostics processing center, and an education outreach coordinator for Defender of Wildlife.
My hobbies include gardening (I make a yummy chocolate chip zucchini bread), reading travel memoirs and nature-related stories, camping, backpacking, and baking. Some of my favorite authors are Bill Bryson and Nicholas Evans. My most recent books I thoroughly enjoyed were Wild, by Cheryl Strayed and Braving It, by My favorite place to visit is Yosemite National Park and Shaver Lake. The Sierra mountains are my sanctuary and I camp there every summer. I love to travel and have been to Hawaii and Australia twice. One day i'd like to visit Alaska, Costa Rica, Italy, Vermont, and Africa to stand in the middle of the migrating wildebeests.
I have two beautiful children, a wonderful husband, a silly dog, two cats, two rabbits, two bearded dragons, two fire-bellied toads, and a leopard gecko named after my kids favorite children books, Little Critter.
